Resumen

Boat design is an engineering art. It is usually performed by using standard techniques as the spiral design. However, an approach or methodology that comes from the end user needs is crucial in order to accomplish the boat requirements for optimal use. In this paper, a design methodology based on product development, functional analysis and ship design spiral applied to small fishing vessels is described. A good vessel design means optimal safety condition for crew and vessels along with the capability to preserve the cargo quality. The building material selected for the present design is the fiberglass, because the optimal mechanical properties. Overall, the design complies with ISO and IMO requirements.
