title = "Evaluation of the impact of the Peruvian Waterway dredged channel in the bed morphodynamics of the Huallaga River",
abstract = "The Peruvian Amazonian waterway project proposes to increase the navigability of some rivers inside the Amazon River watershed by deepening zones of shallow water (about 8 feet of water depth) by means of a dredged channel. The Huallaga River is one of the rivers on which a dredged channel is proposed. The following study focuses on the development of a two-dimensional mobile bed numerical model of the Huallaga River for a reach that spans through the first 50 km downstream of Yurimaguas city. The purpose of this modeling effort is to predict the dynamics of shallow water zones with and without a proposed dredged channel and evaluate the stability of the accumulation zones of the dredged material. The results showed that the dynamics of the bedforms will not be changed by the proposed dredged channel. The following work attempts to contribute to create a modeling workflow for similar engineering projects in the Peruvian Amazonian waterway which can be implemented in future guidelines.",
