Abstract

Cogeneration has been very well received in the industrial and residential sectors around the world. Despite the fact that the Peruvian State has promoted cogeneration since 2005 with the first Decree DS N°064 2005 EM and subsequently replaced by the last Decree DS N° 037 2006 EM published in 2006, there are not many cogeneration plants, this number is not surpassed by more than six, of which the majority are dedicated to the refinery sector. The focus of this study is the technical and economic viability of a textile plant that demands electrical and thermal energy in its processes, representing the textile sector according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) 1.9% of the national GDP, covering for the industry Textile the problem of high energy consumption and operational energy supply of traditional systems consuming electricity from the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) and steam generation through natural gas boilers for the thermal part, is this problem where this thesis covers, in proposing cogeneration as a solution to generate electrical and thermal energy simultaneously. The research served to design and dimension a production plant of a textile company, which in its processes demands 12,447 MWh/year of electrical energy and 18,554 MWh/year of thermal energy, focusing on three design alternatives through two thermal engines: Turbines of gas and Alternative Internal Combustion Engine (MACI). Demonstrating that the system is technically and economically viable through a MACI working 8,544 hours a year and covering the energy demands of the textile plant, obtaining a positive NPV of $660,768.00, IRR of 20% and a Payback of 4 years.
