Abstract

There is a growing demand from users who have suffered from transphalangeal amputations, who can lose up to 50% of their ability to earn income due to the loss of the fingers of the hand. In this way, obtaining a prosthesis to recover the physical capacity of the workers becomes imperative. Therefore, the present research proposes the design of a mechanically operated prosthesis for transphalangeal amputations of the hand using an iterative design methodology based on the VDI 2225 standard in the conceptual design stage. A mechanism with 4 crossed bars was chosen, where for its sizing a kinematic analysis was carried out with the EES and MatLab software, and for the static, stress and fatigue analysis, the Inventor and ANSYS software were used. As a result, a mechanism capable of performing flexion and extension movements within the angular range of the hand was obtained, with a resistance to fatigue of 9.7 x 10 ^ 4 cycles at a load of 19.6 N, in addition to being able to withstand loads of up to 5Kg maximum in cylindrical grip. The manufacture process selected was 3D printing with PLA filament, with a maximum estimated cost of 19.49 USD and a maximum estimated weight of 12.86 grams for an index finger prosthesis.
