Abstract

The present investigation was carried in an aggregates plant in the quarry from Chillon river, Carabayllo district, to solve the current issue due to the equipment stops, whom are causing the downtime in production from an aggregates plant. At the initial part of the research of fault analysis, this was proceeded with the data collection of the production of crushed stone and equipment breakdowns. In addition, interviews with owners and mechanical technicians of aggregates industry as well as the consultation on several sources of information. Afterward, to define study machinery, this was proceeded carry out the equipment criticality analysis, which allowed to find that the cone crusher, this was the critical machinery of an aggregates plant. Research methodology to carry out solution this problem, it was consisted in failure modes identification, whom causes Cone Crusher stop, using FMEA. Then, failure modes are ranked with the Pareto Chart from costs. After, it was determined physical, human and latent root causes of critical failure mode, in this case the Socket line through the Logic Tree. In conclusion, a solution was proposed, then a cost-benefit analysis was carried out on two alternatives of the proposed solution to obtain the profitable solution. There, the second alternative achieved an improvement in the profitability of the aggregates plant because ROI was of 151%, which indicates that the investment in the solution is recover in eight months.
