Abstract

Both design and structural evaluation are tools that allow us to identify how safe a vessel is for the conditions to which it will be subjected in operation. Consequently, it is very important to guarantee them through reliable methodologies that have been applied to existing projects. The present paper proposes an innovative hull form for artisanal fishing vessels using tube type appendages for the tubes for the tubes, keels and keel, also through computational fluid mechanics simulations (CFD) it is analyzed how critical is the increase of the resistance to the advance due to the appendages, also the structural resistance of the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) hull is evaluated by the finite element method (FEA). Finally, it is concluded that it is advisable to use HDPE as a construction material for future artisanal fishing vessels.
