Abstract
The rheological properties of polyalphaolefin lubricant oil with the addition of multi-walled and single-walled carbon nanotubes were studied. The rheological tests were performed by varying the viscosity as a function of temperature, load and shear rate of mixtures with carbon nanotubes concentrations of 0.01 and 0.05 wt.%. The effect of the addition of carbon nanotubes on the wettability of the lubricant was also evaluated. The results showed that the addition of carbon nanotubes at the concentrations tested led to a variation in viscosity with respect to temperature. Shear stress showed significant increase with respect to strain rate and reached maximum values when the concentration of CNT was 0.05 wt % for both single-walled and multi-walled cases.
