Abstract

The present article shows the computational analysis of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fishing vessel with a novel design. The analytical process is carried out following the criteria set by the ISO 12215-5 standard and by using the finite element method (FEM). After applying the three types of mechanical loading suggested by the mentioned standard, it is found that, under deck pressure load criterion, the structure exhibits a maximum equivalent stress, corresponding to 53% of the HDPE's yield stress. Utilizing computational tools such as the FEM, modifications to the vessel's structure are evaluated and implemented, resulting in a reduction of the maximum equivalent stress to 19% of the HDPE's yield stress.
