Paul Cardenas es PhD de Georgia Tech donde investigó e integró estudios experimentales, computacionales y teóricos basados en bioingeniería a nivel celular y molecular. Obtuvo su grado de Magíster en nanociencia y nanotecnología del National Tsing Hua University. Estudió ingenieria mecatrónica en la Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria. Comenzó su carrera de investigación construyendo modelos matemáticos y de simulaciones de biomoléculas. Sus proyectos se centran en las moléculas de adhesión y señalización del sistema inmunológico y uso tecnologías de vanguardia, incluída la manipulación de micropipetas, microscopios de fuerza atómica, y sondas de fuerza biomembrana. El objetivo actual de su investigación es obtener una comprensión fundamental de los procesos biológicos a nivel de celular y molecular, y sus relaciones con la salud humana y las enfermedades. Dichos estudios son relevantes para enfermedades autoinmunes, enfermedades inmuno - depresivas, y cáncer. Así mismo cuenta con una formación en ingeniería, ciencias físicas y biológicas, y un fuerte deseo de entender el funcionamiento interno de la vida a nivel celular y molecular, y una gran pasión por trabajar en un campo multidisciplinario como es la bioingeniería.
