Dr. Emir Vela received the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Microengineering with emphasis on Micro and Nanosystems from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne - EPFL, Switzerland, in 2003 and 2005, respectively. He obtained the degree of Doctor in Mechanical Sciences and Robotics with very honorable mention from the Sorbonne Université (former Université Pierre et Marie Curie), Paris, France in 2010; He was awarded a scholarship by the Commissariat à l’ Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives, France. He has participated in research projects in the field of microrobotics and optomechatronics in France, as well as in design and manufacturing of (Bio) sensors and microactuators in France and Switzerland. He is currently a senior professor of the Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Engineering and Technology-UTEC, Lima; He also leads the Micro-BioRobotics laboratory (http://mablab.utec.edu.pe/). His research interests include microrobotics, BioRobotics, BioMechanics, microfluidic applications, design and manufacturing of sensors and actuators, as well as automatic control. Dr. Vela is part of the program committee of the international conference on Manipulation, Automation and Robotics at Small Scales (MARSS), is a member of the reviewer board of the magazine Micromachines, serves as a reviewer in conferences and journals of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), and in other applied physics journals.
