Groups

Research Group in Scientific Computing (SciCompUTEC)

The objectives of the Computational Science Research Group are to utilize tools from Computer Science (Machine Learning, Neural Networks, parallel computing) to solve problems in both Physics (numerical methods) and Engineering. The aim is to achieve a high level of optimization through algorithm benchmarking, focusing on speed and accuracy of results. Additionally, the group seeks to promote the field of Computational Science in undergraduate and postgraduate studies through activities such as Journal Clubs, Conferences, and Theses.

Research Group in Water Security and Climate Change (SeHClim)

The Water Security and Climate Change Research Group (SeHClim) at UTEC focuses on the impact of variability and climate change on the hydrological cycle, with an emphasis on studying water ecosystem services, water uses, infrastructure, and interdisciplinary approaches for water security at the local and regional scale. Our research encompasses the following themes:

  1. Hydroclimatology, hydrometeorology, El Niño phenomenon.
  2. Hydrology of mountains and glaciers, hydrology of arid areas, and dry rivers.
  3. Hydrological processes in experimental watersheds, development of low-cost monitoring networks.
  4. Socio-hydrological approaches to water availability and disaster risk.
  5. Eco-hydraulics.
